I need to have some not-insignificant work done on my existing Holley carb' - then the power valve and maybe some junk in the carb, both of which sound like pretty insignificant work on a Holley. I gotta admit to being surprised at 2 coupe of things. Thanks in advance for any input you can provide! But cost and turnaround time of that would be significantly higher, plus it would lack whatever benefits a new carb with a newer design would have (e.g., electric choke hopefully less likely to have failures in the near term because the components are new power valve blow-out protection etc.) There’s significant appeal to #2, though…. Thoughts? I lean toward #3, since it’s the least expensive, quickest, and presumably most reliable among the options (since it would be new rather than rebuilt). But not as cool as being able to drive it reliably. Rather, the reason I’m considering that option is just for my own sake: having period-correct stuff is cool. Second, I don’t intend to enter my car for judging and the like, so the appeal of #2 above isn’t that it would get me points in competitions. From my very quick research, that indicates that it is not the original carb that would have come with a ‘57 rather, the code indicates that this is a mid-1960s model carb. I believe it is a 4150 the List # stamped on the front is 1273-2N. At maximum, they’ve said they might recommend sending it out to a rebuilder. And I don’t know for sure, but suspect that the person I bought it from also was using regular gas). At minimum, they suspect the power valve needs to be replaced and that there is some ethanol-related gunk clogging the works such that they’d need to strip it down and thoroughly clean and inspect it (I’m now a firm believer in ethanol-free and have been using it for the last couple of tanks, but was just using regular pump gas before that.
